I thought you were coming here. 

And then I didn't hear,

Staying up all night, 

Didn't bother me much. 

Angry at being blown off, 

Frightened that you'd been hurt.

But as the days rolled by, 

It occurred to me. 

Maybe I shouldn't call, 

I wouldn't want to know.

I thought you were coming here.

Was the flame too hot, 

Or did it flicker out? 

Was I standing too close to you? 

You needed room to breathe.

Or pretending to?

Your silence is far more unkind.
